EXCELLENT Based on 198 reviews Johan S2025-01-18Verified Hiking among Berber villages Good and authentic hiking in the Berber villages. A Berber market is an experience, something different from Marrakesh. Recommended. Janet C2024-12-05Verified Best tour company for Berber/Amazigh peoples and places I heartily recommend this tour company. If you are interested in an introduction to Berber (more properly Amazigh) culture, there is no better choice. The owner, Jamal, himself a member of the Amazigh people, is not just knowledgable, having lived among the very sites and people we visited, but he is also an unusually thoughtful and attentive guide. As a woman in her 80s, I felt at all times that I was in capable and trustworthy hands. And, Jamal is a pleasure to be with -- highly intelligent and amusing. On our tour, we were driven to a fascinating marketplace in the Atlas Mountains, then treated to an unforgettable lunch in an Amazigh village. Jamal was never anything but gracious. I would do this again in a heartbeat. Inshallah! Juliet W2024-11-04Verified Super Sahara adventure This was my second trip with Jamaland Berber Travels and the first for my family. We had a fascinating, 3 day trip to the Sahara and Jamal is a fountain of knowledge and information about Morocco. The trip was a really good balance of interesting and varied sights. Jamal ensures the pace is relaxed and we never felt rushed. Thank you! wilplan2024-10-24Verified Great insight into the Berber landscape and its people Well informed guide and fascinating experience. We got a greater insight about Morocco and its people on this experience than the whole of our trip combined REBECCA H2024-10-23Verified Great experience We had a great day with Jamal. It was a really interesting experience- the kids enjoyed seeing how people lived in the mountain villages and Jamal was great at answering all our questions Rebecca B2024-07-30Verified Morocco forgotten The guides were fantastic!!!! The home visit was warm and the best chicken tagine lunch in Morocco, unless your mother lives here!!! Michael G2024-03-18Verified Amazing local experience Such an amazing experience with Jamal. It was so lovely to have someone who was a true local, showing us around his area, and introducing us to his people. We felt very welcome, and everyone who met hosted us with amazing hospitality. Including lovely tea, amazing homemade tagine, and beautiful scenery. Couldn’t recommend highly enough! Tour170337274952024-02-05Verified Ourika valley It was an amazing trip to the mountains in ourika valley. If you go to Marrakech It's a must. The guide was great, I highly recommend to spend a day or two. laura r2023-12-17Verified Our Favorite Guide We cannot recommend Jamal and Berber Travel Adventures anymore highly. My husband and I were wanting to go outside of Marrakech and visit the High Atlas Mountains and some Berber (Amazigh) villages but were hesitant to due to the recent earthquake. I got in touch with Jamal to see this was possible and he was very open and planned an excursion that showed us first hand the beauty of the area but also the reality the people are living with since the earthquake. Jamal lives in the area and knows everone you pass while walking and he seems well respected in the community. Though our time was limited we felt we really got a glimpse into every day life, meeting local families and going to the Tuesday Market was a highlight. We had six guides in different regions while we were in Morocco and Jamal was by far our favorite. He was so generous, knowledgeable and kind. I would not hesitate recommending Jamal for any of his excursions. Mike B2023-03-31Verified Not to be missed My two teens and I did the two day overnight excursion March 13/14 2023, and it was an absolute highlight of our 2 week trip to Morocco. It's not the most posh, or frankly the least inexpensive, experience you will have in Morocco, but it just might be the best and most memorable. Jamal was wonderful to deal with throughout and very responsive to any email or WhatsApp messages. He has perfect fluency in English, which is a bit harder to come by in Morocco, so that also made communication easier. We met Jamal at a little cafe in Amizmiz, and after he helped us pick up a few last minute purchases we had forgotten, we went off to meet Jamal's colleague Mohammed and our new friend Maria the mule. Soon after we had parked our car in a safe parking spot and were off on our trek. The trekking itself was a little bit challenging, but certainly not overwhelming if you're in moderately decent physical condition, and the scenery and views are as breathtaking as they are varied. One minute you're baking in the sun on the side of an arid, rocky cliff, and 5 minutes later you're in the shade of a cool pine forest. We passed through and by some smaller villages and stopped for lunch and a bit of a rest at the house of Fatima (in Tidli I believe, although I may be wrong), whose hospitality and delicious homecooking we all enjoyed immensely. After a few more hours of scenic hiking in the afternoon, we came to Ait Irghit, where we would spend the night at the home of Mohammed and his wife Khadija. After taking a little while to relax and rest from the hike, we went out with Jamal to explore the village a bit and met some of the local children who were big fans of the candy bars we had brought along for just such an occasion. After that, we went back and tried to help Khadija a little bit as she prepared the evening meal. Mohammed and Khadija were wonderful hosts and made us feel right at home with a delicious dinner, and safe warm place to sleep, and a hearty breakfast in the morning. The next day, we departed a bit from the planned itinerary, due to some of our own scheduling constraints, which Jamal was happy to accommodate. Rather than visit another village for lunch, we took a bit of an expedited trekking route back to Amizmiz, and instead spent some time with Jamal helping show us around and shop at the weekly market, as we were lucky enough to be returning there on a Tuesday.Overall, I can't say enough about this experience, which not only exposed us to some beautiful natural environment, but also gave us a real first hand sense of everyday life in these small villages, a world a way from our everyday big city lives. Speaking very limited French, and basically no Darlija at all meant that our verbal interactions with Fatima, Mohammed, Khadija and most of the other local people we met were pretty limited, but sometimes you can communicate a lot without using words. And Jamal was always close at hand to translate, explain and teach, and patiently answer our many questions. At the end of our two week trip travelling around the country, my kids voted Jamal to be "The Best Guy in Morocco", a crown I hope he can wear with pride.
